Interview: DJ Eibhlin

We caught up with the DJ behind CD 1 of our latest Deep House album.

One of our most in demand residents, DJ Eibhlin’s obsession with dance music and events grew rapidly from her teens until she eventually made the decision to move to London to pursue her passion full time.

She now DJs out across the world for Hed Kandi and regularly mixes our albums.

Talk us through your selections on the Deep House album.

When I started putting the album together, in my head, I wanted to create a sort of journey for the listener.  I selected tracks that I thought would resonate with our following on a deeper level. Many deep house tracks have been revisited and reinvented by current artists.

I wanted to pay homage to those legends that paved the way for the deep house genre when it originally begun a quarter of a century ago. I also wanted to showcase some fresh new artists that are up-and-coming and also applaud the big ballers in the deep house game.

Who are the new and upcoming artists in the Deep House scene to lookout for?

No Artificial Colours have been creating so much good music the past few years and are very talented. It is going to be a major year for them. Another London-based duo Tough Love are definitely ones to watch. They have been making some amazing records and are very talented DJs and producers.  With Duke Dumont going to number one in the national chart, it just goes to show how massive deep house has become over the last 12 months!

What’s your favourite track from the album?

I couldn’t choose one! Lee Foss & MK Featuring Anabel Aungland – Electricity, Clean Bandit – A&E, Romanthony – Let Me Show You Love, Kim English – Nitelife (Alexis Raphael Remix), Duke Dumont –Need U (100%). The whole album is ‘da shizzle’!

How are the album tracks going down when you’re playing them out?

The tracks are being so well received. When I was putting the album together I played out some of my favourite deep house tracks to see the crowd’s reactions. The response when I played tracks from Shadow Child, NiCe7, Duke Dumont, Hot Since 82 and Alexis Raphael were immense so I knew that they would be firm favourites for the album.

You’ve got one of your new tracks on there, how did the track come about?

I was hanging out in the studio with Tough Love who are mates of mine. We were listening to music and some of their on-going projects. We started vibing and bouncing ideas off one another. We had so many thoughts about sounds and vocals, we decided to start laying down a track which ended up being Expressions!

What does the summer have in store for you?

Summer is going to be a really busy one. I will be back and forth to Ibiza and Marbella for our Hed Kandi residencies. We also have gigs lined up throughout Europe and also the UK. I will be playing at festivals such Creamfields, Kiss Beach and Sundown.

It’s going be hectic to say the least but I live for summers like this. From sunshine and sea to raving in fields with friends, all for the love of house music! What more could you want?

Interview: Sarah Louise

With Las Vegas currently labelled as ‘the new Ibiza’, we kicked off this year’s World Series USA album with the main room sounds from Las Vegas’ biggest nightclubs, mixed by Hed Kandi DJ Sarah Louise.

To celebrate the album's release, we caught up with her to discuss her history with Hed Kandi, where she’s playing this summer and her contribution to World Series USA.

How did you go about putting the tracks together?

Having seen the Vegas club scene first hand, I was really excited when I was asked to compile this particular mix as I knew I would be able to put some amazing tracks on it! I wanted to create a mix much like a club set that I would play in this city, which would start strong and keep momentum the whole way through and never giving the listener a chance to stop dancing!

Being a part of Hed Kandi allows me access to some of the hottest tracks on the scene - I picked the tracks which I felt related best to the Vegas scene and mixed them together in a way to try and keep the party rocking!

What’s your favourite track from your mix, and why?

Hard to choose but I’m going to go with Avicii - Silouettes. It's a firm favourite in my record box at the moment. I really love the vocal and it's definitely a track that gets the crowd going.

What do you like so much about Las Vegas?

I love Vegas because it's a city you can really get lost in. There are so many sights to see and things to do.
I love the fact that the party never stops!

Tell us about your history with Hed Kandi.

I've been with Hed Kandi since April 2008. It's been amazing to watch the brand grow from strength to strength and to say that I’ve been a part of it. I've spent five seasons in Ibiza and been involved in some brilliant festivals including the BPM Festival in Mexico and Ylon Festival in Slovenia and then experienced the full force of some of the best clubs across the world.

What’s the best club in Las Vegas and why?

It's hard to pick just one club in Vegas because there are so many good ones, but I always have a great night when I visit XS nightclub. The club is stunning and the resident and guest DJs always deliver a great party.

Where do you hang out when in Las Vegas?

It depends what mood I’m in because there's so much variety. I'm very partial to daytime pool parties, so very often you'll find me at one of those! I also check out the casinos, the shows and last time I was there, I was hanging out of plane doing a skydive!

You’re playing all over the world this summer, but any event in particular you’re looking forward to?

There's a few that stand out for me this summer. The Digital Dreams Festival in Toronto was incredible.  Es Paradis in Ibiza is celebrating our 10 year birthday party and has had an incredible set up this year. I'm back for my fourth time in Creamfields which is always a guaranteed party! I've been spoilt!

And finally, if you could sum up what you want the listener to get from your mix on World Series USA, what would it be?

Just like Vegas - I wanted this mix to be loud and in your face, the kind of mix that would get you up and dancing, wherever you happened to be! I hope the listeners feel the same way.
