The competition has two prizes with different methods of winning:
Prize One - (for DJs) A Worldwide Hed Kandi DJ Residency
This side of the competition is aimed at seasoned DJs who want to enter the global DJ arena. It is won by getting into the Leaderboard Top Ten by setting up a DJ profile on the Live The Dream application and receiving votes from other Facebook users. The winner will be chosen from the Leaderboard Top Ten.
Prize Two - A Pioneer DJ Setup
This side of the competition is for those who want to learn to mix by winning their own DJ set up! It is won by voting for your favourite DJ on the Live The Dream application. The winner will be picked at random from voters.

---How to Enter the competition as a DJ---
The first screen shows two buttons Enter and View.
Click Enter to take you to the Details screen
Once in the Details screen you will need to enter your information:
DJ Name: This is your ‘stage’ name. You can be creative as you like or just choose your real name.
Why you should win: Try and be original in your answer. Make sure it captures people’s attention and imagination
Real name: This is your full name including any middle names
Location: Your city of residence goes in here
Age: Your age. Over 18s only please.
Email address: Your primary address where we can contact you should you win
Optional Youtube Clip: Increase your chances of winning by uploading a Youtube clip. For info on how to do this best, see Video Clip Tips at the bottom of the page.
Terms and Conditions box: Make sure you have read the T&Cs and tick this to continue
After filling these out, click SAVE and the tick box at the top right should become checked.
- Step 2 – Your Facebook Fan Page
In order to get people to vote for you, you will need a Facebook Fan Page.
Your Facebook Fan Page is where you can put all of the information and material which will encourage people to vote for you. At the very least it should include a 30 minute mix, your biog and some photos but for the more advanced or experienced DJs could also include:
- Gig footage
- Scanned event flyers
- Tracks you’ve made
- Articles
- Anything you can think of to promote yourself – the more creative, the better
- Adding a lot of fans to the fan page
The word ‘Hed Kandi’ should not appear in the title of your Fan Page.
Once your Fan Page is set up you must add the Live The Dream application to it. Here is how:
- Click on the Add to your DJ Fan Page button on the Details page. This will pop up the application homepage where you must click the Add to Page button on the top left.
If you can't see it, click 'more' to display more options and 'Add to my Page' should become an option.
- Select which Facebook Fan Page to add to from the pop up list. If you can't see any Fan Pages or 'No Results' is displayed, then you have not correctly set up a Facebook Fan Page.
Perhaps you have a group or a normal profile page but not a Fan Page. If you have set up a new Facebook Fan Page just for this competition, make sure it is published. There is an option to
publish your Fan Page (make it visible to all of Facebook) once you have set up and it is possible that you have overlooked this.
- Close the box and open up your Facebook Fan page. This can be done by clicking the 'Ads & Pages' button on the bottom left of the screen (a small green and blue box with a letter F inside) and then clicking
on the name of your page under 'Recent Page Activity'. If you do not see the Ads and Pages icon it is because you do not have a Facebook Fan Page yet (N.B Fan Pages are different to Profile Pages and Groups).
- On your Facebook Fan Page click the '+' button which appears on the top near the tabs (such as Wall, Info, etc)
- Select Hed Kandi from the dropdown list.
- When the page has loaded click Set Up Page
- Select Set this to be your DJ Profile’s Official Page and then Submit
- Next select the option to Publish to your wall or skip this step until later
- Your Facebook Fan Page will now be set up and ready to recieve votes. The Hed Kandi tab on has it's own URL (web address) meaning you can give it to people to access the voting page directly.
That’s it! Your ready to go...

TIP: You don’t have to create a brand new DJ Fan page if you already have a fan page. The more fans you have, the greater chance you hav and the more votes you are likely to receive.You may also want to encourage friends who do not want to enter to add the app to their Facebook Pages but add your profile instead of their own.
If you’ve successfully registered your details, YouTube video and Facebook profile with the Live The Dream application on the Details page and all three boxes are ticked then your profile is ready and it’s time to get some votes and get onto the Leaderboard.
There are some tools that will help you to do this:
The Share button on the My Profile tab will allow you to post a message to your profile allowing your friends to see it. It also has the ability to send direct messages to your friends inbox also.
The Invite button on the application header allows you to invite people to the application directly.
However, self promotion is key here and the best way to get votes is by word of mouth. Email, call, text, message, poke, shake, scream... do whatever you can to influence your friends and followers to vote for you. They will of course be in with a chance to win a full Pioneer DJ set up themselves!
TIP: Facebook fan pages have their own URLs which you can use to lead directly to your page. Fan Page tabs (such as the DJ Profile tab that you set up on your Facebook Fan Page) also have their own URLs so it is possible to send people directly to the right tab on the page to vote for you).
----How to Enter the competition as a voter----
There are two ways to enter as a voter and both methods enter you into the competition to win a Pioneer DJ setup.
If you know the DJ you want to vote for, you can go to their Facebook Fan Page (perhaps they have sent you an invitation or a link via email or facebook message) then:
- Click on their Hed Kandi tab
- Click Vote for this DJ
- Click Allow
- Enter your email address.
Alternatively you can enter directly via the application via the link on the Hed Kandi homepage (You will need to log into facebook after clicking on the link)
If you enter directly via the application then:
- Click View
- Browse the Leaderboard and find a DJ you wish to vote for
- Click on their DJ name on the Leaderboard entry
- Select Vote for this DJ
- Enter your email address

Video Clip Tips
To take part in this competition you need to record a video, perhaps with a (webcam or mobile phone) introducing yourself. Here are some pointers:
- Keep it brief (about a minute should do)
- Make sure you are visible (a face on shot is best, no masks!)
- Introduce yourself and speak a little about who you are
- Make sure you can be heard (no background noise or music)
The video must be uploaded to Youtube and named Live The Dream followed by your DJ name.
Once it is uploaded, copy the URL and paste it into the box in Step 2.
Click SAVE and the second tick box should become checked.
You don’t have to upload your video straight away, you can come back to it and go straight to step 3 but you must at some point upload a video in order to enter the Leaderboard.

Terms & Conditions – Live The Dream Competition
Open to entrants worldwide with the exception of employees of Pioneer, Hed Kandi or their immediate families, agents or anyone else connected with this promotion.
• Entrants must be 18 years or over.
• Hed Kandi DJ Roster competition closes August 31st
• Pioneer CDJ-400 DJ Setup Competition closes June 30th
• Hed Kandi retain the right to disqualify winners should they have failed to portray an accurate representation of their skills and character throughout the competition (i.e false mix demos, false biogs, false photos)
• Hed Kandi will offer the winner a worldwide DJ residency. This comprises a 3 event probationary period where the DJ’s performance is measured and may be extended to further events only upon satisfaction of the Hed Kandi management team.
• Details will be held by Hed Kandi and Pioneer only and not passed to third parties
• Entrants may be contacted by Pioneer or Hed Kandi
• Hed Kandi will select a winner from the Top Ten leaderboard
• Only one prize per entrant. Multiple entries not permitted.
• Winners will be notified within 28 days.
• No cash alternatives available. Promoter’s decision in all matters will be final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into.
• Winners may be required to participate in publicity, which may include photographs of the winners and use of their names.
