Back in 1998, the original Nu Cool album was released as the pre-cursor to all that became Hed Kandi. In early 2006, Hed Kandi successfully re-introduced the Nu Cool theme following a six-year absence and we realised what we had been missing! We begin 2007 with another Nu Cool set to wet the broader musical appetite of Hed Kandi fans around the world.
We’ve had the original cool, the rebirth of cool and a host of other pretenders to the crown of cool. Generally, it’s a select few in the media who decide what is cool and you cannot claim coolness – it can only be bestowed upon you. So what’s cool now? This edition of Nu Cool is Hed Kandi’s round up of all that we think is deserving of the term and it’s our take on what makes the best soundtrack to a certain lifestyle and reflects what happens somewhere between house music and downtempo/chill out; it covers modern funk, soul, jazz, broken beats, electro and all that fits in between. We suggest this album is best filed under lounge and recommend its use as the warm up or the cool down.
Both established names and up and coming talent are invited to enter Hed Kandi’s Club Nu Cool. Via both original and remix productions, they’re present with cool sounds we might not immediately or usually associate with them. Names such as Basement Jaxx, Andy Caldwell, Crazy P, Chungking and Max Sedgley are well established with the Kandi faithful, Bugz In The Attic, Amp Fiddler, Matthew Herbert and Pepe Deluxe are names associated with cooler dancefloors, whilst tracks from The Loose Cannons, Syleena Johnson and Reel People provide the sassiest soulful beats.
