Welcome to the new album from Hed Kandi – The Mix: Summer 2009.
Here at Kandi HQ summer is without a doubt our favourite time of the year! Regrettably we could not package palm trees, an ocean breeze or beach sand into this CD case for you, however, in saying that we have explored our numerous dancefloors across the globe (and in particular our new White Isle residency at Space) to capture the very essence of our world-famous summer parties and create the perfect collection of upfront, hands-in-the-air tracks for a superlative Friday, Saturday and Sunday Kandi celebration for you to enjoy endlessly.
CD1 launches our Friday mix with a perfect welcome from Basement Jaxx’s latest single ‘Raindrops’, Buxton and Ratcliffe combine their distinctive and classic Jaxx beat with a menacing bass line topped with a spellbinding euphoric vocal. Next up Kandi favourites the Freemason’s latest track Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer) featuring Sophie Ellis - Bextor which has an alluring dance-pop feel to it. Also on disc one our very own darlings of disco, Booty Luv, feature with an exclusive sneak preview of their next single, Say It, taken from their forthcoming artist album due early 2010. We’ve been asking ourselves if Chicane’s Popiholla could potentially be one of the biggest tunes of summer 2009? We’ll leave that to you to decide...
CD2 is a collection of the true main room Hed Kandi floor fillers for the perfect big night out and essential Saturday mix! Kicking things off, AVH once again pulls out wonders with a sensational remix of Jack Penate’s Be The One, Eric Morillo makes a welcomed returned with the enormously popular I Get Lifted, which has become a weapon in all Hed Kandi resident DJs CD wallets. The D.O.N.S. remix of the timeless classic Somebody Else’s Guy featuring disco diva Jocelyn Brown, who has graced so many disco anthems over the years, is simply raising the roof in Ibiza this year. Also featuring on this disc Yass overhauls Prince’s When Doves Cry and this track simply oozes sheer brilliance. Chris Moody’s masterful remix of Richard Grey’s rendition of the classic Daft Punk anthem One More Time blends perfectly into the mix, and there’s a rework from The Face Vs Mark Brown & Adam Shaw of the timeless stomper Needin U making a massive comeback as a club hit once again.
CD3 introduces some calm to the storm as we recline and enjoy a typical Sunday poolside Balearic session. The Kandi faithful out there will immediately recognise this disc to be the Serve Chilled offering with a twist of lemon. Here at Kandi Towers we simply love Bob Marley and it was to be expected that somewhere along the line we would feature one of his releases. The Pistol’s remix of Soul Rebel will simply not be complete without the immediate addition of a sub-zero cocktail in your left hand and your right arm dipped lazily in the pool. The definition of cool can be found hidden deep within this track. Other highlights on disc three include 40 Thieves with a return trip to funk in Don’t Turn It Off with extremely blasé and charismatic vocals by Qzen. Ronda’s remix of Jimmy Chew Band and the track If is a great reworking of Jackie Moore’s original masterpiece, melancholic pop-electronica, with foot tapping hip-hop beats and recognizable sing-along vocals. All in all, disc three is a blissed-out selection for hazy, lazy, listening.
Be it Plaza Beach in Puerto Banus, Bar du Port in St Tropez, Space in Ibiza or any other of our fantastic and luxurious summer residencies, be sure to catch Kandi serving up the best mix that summer has to offer.
